Well, Intel hasn’t exactly been making many secrets about its latest cadre of processors, and at least a few of them already seem to be shipping in some parts of the world, but it now looks like things could soon be about to get a whole lot more official. According to DigiTimes, Intel is set to announce its new Core i5-750, Core i7-860 and Core i7-870 CPUs (and the P55 chipset to go along with ‘em) on September 8th, which is almost right in line with some of the earliest rumors on the matter. Details are otherwise a bit light, although DigiTimes‘ “sources” estimate that P55-based motherboards could account for as much as 20% of total motherboard shipments by the end of 2009.

Sure, it’ll probably be a good while before you get your hands on an OLED TV, but don’t lose heart, young gadget-head! Techno-wizards at the RIKEN center in Japan have concoted a new way to fashion OLEDs that eschews the standard spin-coated films for something called electrospray-deposited polymer films, incorporating “a novel dual-solvent concept” that makes the ‘em “smoother than before, thereby enabling [...] superior devices.” We’ll skip a few details that don’t mean anything to those of us who aren’t Advanced Materials subscribers (hit the read link for more info) and get to the good stuff: Yutaka Yamagata, the guy who developed this technique, says it will lead to displays “manufactured as inexpensively as printing newspapers.” Is that a promise, Yutaka? If so, we’re holding you to it.

The ASUS Eee Keyboard has been delayed a couple times since it first made our hearts race at CES, but it looks like those rumors of an October launch might actually come true: the new-age C64 has just arrived at the FCC for a little government work. Interestingly, the test reports indicate the presence of a UWB radio in addition WiFi and Bluetooth, so it looks like we’ll see the planned wireless HDMI model even after the spec pretty much hit the skids earlier this summer. We’ll see how it goes — and if we get that interesting Moblin version alongside the Windows edition when this thing eventually ships. Fingers crossed!

Nikon’s D300s has been filtering out to select retail locations for a few days now, and judging by the box that just arrived on our doorstep, we’d say Nikon (just barely) kept its promise of having these things out by the end of August. The semi-pro body is significantly more sturdy and somewhat heavier than our in-house D90, though the rear LCD sure looks awfully similar. We’re planning on giving the 12.3 megapixel CMOS sensor and 720p movie mode a go, but for now, feel free to peruse the gallery below to see exactly what a penny under $1,800 gets you in the DSLR world these days.

It may have been briefly, sort of official before Dell decided to do some backtracking earlier this month, but it looks like the company’s China-bound Mini 3i smartphone has now made yet another public appearance, and Sina has thankfully delivered what looks to be the most thorough hands-on with the phone to date. That, as you can see above, also includes a peek at the phone’s Android-based and China-centric OPhone operating system, which ditches the familiar Android Clock in favor of new, different clocks — and a slew of other interface changes. Hit up the link below to get started.

And just like that, Apple’s yearly iPod event is happening. According to an email we’ve just received, it looks like all those rumors we heard turned out to be true. The big A will be holding the proceedings at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco (go figure), and guess what? We’ll be there live.

A couple of notes for MusicSkins, LLC. First, Never use the word “bling” in your PR. Ever. Second, if David Hasselhoff hears that you’re licensing images from legendary recording artists to “custom-bling” Seagate hard drives and you leave him out of it, you’ll soon find your office deluged with phone calls, faxes, and emails from the man, desperate to get in on the action. (And we know all about his tenacity: we’ve been involved in at least one hot Hollywood project that he’s tried to shoe-horn his way into.) Anyways, if you’re inexplicably interested, check it out: MusicSkins (known for vinyl covers for laptops and iPods, among other things) has licensed a “vast range” of images from either artists or their crypt-keepers and will sell you one for your favorite Free Agent To Go HDD. Prices range from $15 to $30, although for a limited time one can receive 20 percent off any cover and 35 free songs from eMusic when registering your FreeAgent Go with Seagate. And the best news? The cover is removable, so if you ever move out of the dorms (or stop living like you’re in a dorm) you can hide it somewhere.

Archos 3 Vision PMP given one-handed shakeycam review

Curious about how well the new Archos 3 Vision portable media player stacks up to its bulkier, more voluminous predecessors? Perhaps the video review after the break courtesy of Archos Fans forum user roylovelock will satiate your curiosity — it will, at least, make you a bit queasy thanks to the handheld camerawork. Placed next to an Archos 5 the thing looks positively lilliputian, but its 3-inch touchscreen seems more than adequate and, while 8GB of storage may not be much, microSDHC expansion offsets that. The review praises the device’s functionality, including integrated FM receiving and broadcasting as well as its seemingly solid hardware design and upwards of five hours of video battery life. Not so highly regarded is the non-responsive UI, with a curious on-screen thumbwheel that looks highly unintuitive — at least when used by this particular thumb. The video below is informative but a bit painful to watch, so feel free to skip straight to roylovelock’s written impressions on the other end of that read link, which are rather more easy to take in on a Monday morning.

If two slides leaked to the Eeeuser.com forum are to be believed, ASUS has some pretty interesting — though not terrifically surprising — netbooks on the horizon. The slides, which are apparently the company’s roadmap for US products for the next two quarters, are chock full of refreshed product information. It looks like we’re going to be seeing a brand new Eee PC, the 12-inch 1201N, which will bring NVIDIA’s Ion platform to the line for the first time, with an Atom N270 CPU, 2GB RAM, a 250GB HDD, Bluetooth and 802.11n WiFi, running $499 for release in mid-October. Other than that, we can expect to see the 1005HA-P with the N280 processor and a 250GB HDD option running Windows 7 also arriving in October for $399, and the 1005HA-M with the N270 processor, a 250GB hard drive, and Windows 7 Starter Edition for $349. Finally, Netbook News is also reporting some new 1008HA models not listed on the slides, as well as a multitouch, Windows 7-running T91 convertible tablet with a 32GB SSD priced at $549. There’s no timeline mentioned for this one, but we’ll keep our ears to the ground expectantly. The other slide is after the break; hit the read link if you want the full details on each model.
